The 'Alert Settings' page can be accessed by navigating to Configure System Settings  Alert Settings. Accessing this page will display a list of alerts with the corresponding conditions that generate the respective alerts.

The following alerts are displayed to the user:

  • Hardware Status - This alert is raised when there is a hardware or a software change on your appliance. This change could be a result of a failed hardware component, removal of a component or detection of an anomalous condition.

  • Licensed capacity consumption - This alert is triggered when the amount of data stored by the user is nearing the licensed capacity of your StorSimple appliance, specifically when the user exceeds certain defined thresholds - 50%, 65% or 80% of the licensed capacity. To remedy this condition, the user needs to reduce the data stored on the system or obtain additional licenses. This alert is enabled by default and the user is not permitted to disable it.

  • Cloud unreachable - This alert is displayed to the user when the appliance is unable to communicate with one or more cloud storage service providers for a time interval of greater than five minutes. To alleviate this alert, the user needs to ascertain that there are no issues with network connectivity and cloud configuration of the appliance.

  • Upgrade state change - An “Upgrade Running” alert is raised when the upgrade commences and stays for the entire duration of the upgrade operation. This alert is periodically updated with progress details related to the upgrade operation. When  the upgrade is cancelled or completed, the “Upgrade Running” alert is cleared.

A new alert either “Upgrade Cancelled” or “Upgrade Completed” as appropriate, is then raised to indicate that the upgrade is no longer in process.  The new alert is displayed for a short duration and then automatically cleared.

  • Appliance restart - This alert is presented to the user when the user has restarted the appliance. It can also be presented during the failover step following the appliance restart.

All the above alerts are evaluated at a 1minute interval.

The 'Alert Settings' page also allows you to enable or disable the alerts on your StorSimple Appliance. To disable an existing alert or vice-versa, click on the edit icon Edit_Pencil.png located to the far left of the corresponding alert. The user can check the 'Enabled' field to enable the alert or uncheck it to disable the alert. After making the desired change, click on the green check icon Green_Check.png to save and update the changes or click on the red cross Red_Cross.png to cancel the changes.

By default, all the alerts are 'enabled' and configured to use notification mechanism meaning an email is sent based on the settings specified under 'Notification Settings'. Note that the 'Licensed Capacity Consumption' alert cannot be disabled.

This page can also be refreshed by clicking at the refresh icon Refresh.png located at the bottom right corner.
