QoS Templates

The QoS Templates page allows the user to configure multiple time-of-day QoS profiles. The user can create, modify, delete and save these profiles as templates. These QoS templates can then be used across multiple cloud configurations to limit the amount of WAN bandwidth consumed by the appliance for operations involving the cloud.

Access Configure Templates QoS Templates to open this page.

The QoS templates page is as shown below. This page presents all the QoS templates that exist on the system in a tabular format. A 'Default' QoS template is provided and is used by cloud configurations by default to enforce bandwidth controls when accessing the cloud. The 'default' template can be edited only to modify the bandwidth component. It cannot be deleted by the user. The 'Default' QoS profile is also used when -

  • no QoS profile is being used.
  • you are in between the schedules as in a schedule has expired and another hasn't started yet.

The tasks associated with QoS templates are detailed in the following sections:

Under the 'General' tab, specify a unique text string to be used as the name for the template.

On the 'Schedules' tab, specify the following parameters associated with the template schedule -

QoSTemplates3.png

  • Days - refers to the days of the week the schedule is configured for. The 'Days' of the week can be selected from a drop-down list. Multiple days can be selected by checking the checkboxes located before the respective days in the list.

  • All Day - You can select this option if the schedule is enforced for the entire day. When this option is checked, the user can no longer specify a 'Start Time' or a 'End Time'.

QoSTemplates5.png

  • Start Time - refers to the time when the schedule will initiate. Choose the 'Start Time' for the schedule by typing in the field. Alternatively, you can click inside the 'Start Time' field and choose the time using the calendar view that pops up.

QoSTemplates6.png

  • End Time - refers to the time when the schedule will be completed. The 'End Time' can be typed or selected from a calendar view as well.

QoSTemplates7.png

  • Bandwidth Rate (Mbps) - refers to the bandwidth in 'Megabits per second' used by the appliance in operations involving the cloud. Supply a number between 1-1000 for this field. Note that the bandwidth rate of '0' implies that no bandwidth controls have been employed.

  • Create Schedule - Additional schedules can be configured by clicking on the plus icon or the 'Create Schedule' text .

After you have specified all the schedule-related settings, click on 'View Timeline' to see a calendar view of the multiple schedules employed by your template. This at-a-glance calendar can be used to figure out if any modifications to the overall schedule are required. Note that overlapping schedules are not allowed.

Hovering over any of the highlighted areas should specify the bandwidth setting. The different schedules are color-coded. If you are satisfied with the settings, proceed to Save the settings or Cancel out of this dialog.

The template that you have created will be added to the list of templates on the QoS templates page. You can use the refresh icon Refresh.png located at the bottom right corner of this page.

QoS Template Example

Use case:

The customer wants to create a schedule that starts at a time of your choosing and runs all-day. For instance, the schedule starts at 9AM in the morning and runs all-day.

Here is how you will do it -

  1. Create a schedule that will start at 9AM in the morning and runs until midnight.
  2. Add another schedule by clicking on '+ Create Schedule'.
  3. Configure the 2nd schedule to run from midnight until 9AM in the morning.

The composite schedule will then start at a time of your choosing and run all-day.
