Located at the very top of the application window, the menu bar has five options as shown below.

Each of the above options leads to a dropdown as discussed here.

 

  • File - Selecting the 'File' drawer reveals the various options as described below:

  1. New - opens a new snap-in.
  2. Open -  opens an existing snap-in.
  3. Save - allows the user to save the currently open snap-in.
  4. Save As -  allows the user to save the currently open snap-in under a user-specified name and location.
  5. Add/Remove Snap-In - this option allows the user to add a folder node to the tree. This feature can be used to organize your snap-in console. For additional details of this option, refer to the Microsoft Management Console Help Topics.
  6. Options  - this option allows the user to change console icons, permissions related to console mode and deletion of console files to free up disk space. For additional details, please refer to the Microsoft Management Console Help Topics.
  7. Various Files  -  these paths show the recently used files that were opened within this application.
  8. Exit - will close the current application window and exit your StorSimple Data Protection Console application.

 

128px-Light_bulb_icon_tips_svg.pngTip: The 'Save' and 'Save As' options can be used to customize a view and save it for later retrieval. For instance, a user may wish to add 'Computer Management' and other snap-ins, or multiple DPC snap-ins pointing to multiple servers and save the view for later.

 

  • Action - The 'Action' drawer options depend upon the node that is selected in the Scope pane. If the topmost node is selected, this drawer reveals the following options:

  1. Toggle Imports Display - choosing this option will allow the user to toggle between hiding/showing the volume groups and associated backups that were imported from the Web UI of the appliance that is synced with the DPC UI. See also Toggle Imports Display for detailed information on how to use this option.
  2. New Window from Here - selecting this option will allow the user to open up a new window rooted at the console. See also  the page on New Window from Here for more details on this option.
  3. Refresh - this option will allow the user to refresh the contents of results corresponding to the selected node in the Scope pane. Refer to Refresh page for more details on how to use this option.
  4. Export List - when selected, this option will allow the user to export the contents of the Results pane into a csv file that can be parsed further by a spreadsheet application.
  5. Help - this option will take the user to StorSimple Online Help in a separate browser window.

 

  • View - The 'View' drawer has the following options:

  1. Add/Remove Columns - selecting this option will allow the user to change the Results pane view by adding or deleting columns.  Refer to Add/Remove Columns for detailed information on how to use this feature.
  2. Customize - choosing this option allows the user to customize the StorSimple Snap-In views.

 

  • Favorites - The 'Favorites' drawer presents the following options to the user:

  1. Add to Favorites - this option allows the user to add the current view to the list of favorites.
  2. Organize Favorites - this option allows the user to organize the favorites folder.

 

  • Window - The 'Window' drawer presents the following options to the user:

  1. New Window - allows the user to open a new window, in addition to the existing window.
  2. Cascade - if multiple windows are open, selecting this option will display the windows in a cascading style as shown below.
  3. Tile Horizontally -  if multiple windows are open, selecting this option will tile the windows within the application window as shown below.
  4. Arrange Icons - this option when selected will arrange the icons present on your windows desktop.
  5. localhost - the topmost node of the tree shown in the console. This changes based on the node selected.

 

  • Help - Selecting the 'Help' drawer shows the following options to the user:

  1. Help on StorSimple Data Protection - currently this option does not work. This is also documented in the Release Notes for your StorSimple software.
  2. Help Topics - clicking this option will open up the Microsoft Management Console offline help topics in a separate window.
  3. TechCenter Web Site - clicking this option will launch the Microsoft Tech Center Web Site in a separate window.
  4. About Microsoft Management Console - clicking this option displays software versions of Management Console and Windows Server installed on your windows host as well as the associated licensing information.
  5. About StorSimple Data Protection - clicking this option shows the version of StorSimple DPC software installed on your windows host.
