Software Upgrade for 5010 and 7010

Last modified

In these dual-controller StorSimple appliances, first the standby controller is upgraded. Once it is verified to be healthy, the controls are transferred from the active to the standby controller that takes over as the new active controller. The once-active controller is now upgraded and will function as the new standby controller after the software upgrade is complete.

The software upgrade consists of five well-defined tasks each of which has multiple steps. These are – upgrading the standby controller, monitoring the status of cluster, failover and transfer of control, upgrading the new-standby controller, and verifying the software upgrade. Each of these is discussed in detail in the following pages.

Note: It is recommended that you take data backups using Cloud Snapshots or Cloud Clones before beginning the upgrade. See Configure  Data Protection of this guide for steps on how to take a backup.  You should also take a Configuration Backup by navigating to Home → Manage → Configuration Backup and clicking the Download button.
