The ‘Diagnostics’ page, shown below, allows you to verify network configuration and identify any situations that may be problematic or otherwise prevent normal system operation.

Within the diagnostics page, are a series of verifiable items, each critical to operation of your appliance.  A status showing a green checkmark (healthy status) indicates that the configuration of that particular element is not of concern.  A status showing a red circle with a white X (warning status) indicates that there may be a condition that is of concern, that could impact operation.

  • IP Addresses – Your appliance automatically checks to see if IP addresses and subnet masks are assigned to each enabled interface.  If an enabled interface does not have an IP address and subnet mask, a warning status will be set

  • Interface Speed and Duplex – Your appliance examines the operating speed and duplex of each interface.  If any enabled interface is operating in half-duplex or at speeds lower than 100Mbps, a warning status will be set

  • Default Gateway – Your appliance verifies that a default gateway is reachable, which is necessary in order to reach a cloud storage service provider.  If no default gateway is configured, or, if the default gateway is unreachable, a warning status will be set

  • Name Resolution – Your appliance will automatically check to see if it can resolve domain names to IP addresses using the configured DNS servers.  If your appliance is unable to perform name resolution using the configured DNS servers, a warning status will be set

  • Time Synchronization – Your appliance verifies that it is able to reach the configured NTP servers and synchronize time, which is critical in order to ensure synchronization with cloud storage service providers.  If an NTP server is unreachable, or your appliance is unable to synchronize time with the NTP server, a warning status will be set

Clicking the ‘details’ icon (appears as a magnifying glass) within the row of one of the diagnostic elements will produce a pop-up window providing you more details of the conditions that your appliance encountered.

Warning Conditions

Edit section

The following are the conditions found in each of the components that can create a warning status within the diagnostics page, and how they can be resolved.

Diagnostic Element

Condition

Message

Resolution

IP Addresses

Healthy

All interfaces have a valid IP address

None

Degraded

Only n out of n interfaces have a valid IP address

Verify that each interface has a valid IP address assigned

Warning

No interface has a valid IP address

Configure IP addresses on your enabled interfaces

Interface Speed and Duplex

Healthy

All interfaces are operating in full-duplex and 100Mbps or greater speed

None

Degraded

Only n out of n interfaces are operating in full-duplex and 100Mbps or greater speed

Verify that each interface speed and duplex is configured correctly on the switch that the appliance is connected to

Warning

No interface is operating in full-duplex and 100Mbps or greater speed

Verify that each interface speed and duplex is configured correctly on the switch that the appliance is connected to

Default Gateway

Healthy

Default gateway configured and reachable

None

Degraded

Default gateway configured and reachable, but packet loss was encountered

Ensure that your default gateway and the network between your appliance and the default gateway are operating properly

Warning

No default gateway configured

Configure a default gateway on at least one of your DATA interfaces

Warning

Default gateway configured but not reachable

Ensure that your default gateways are configured correctly, and that they are online and reachable

Name Resolution

Healthy

Name resolution performed successfully

None

Warning

Unable to perform name resolution

Ensure that your DNS servers are properly configured, that the DNS servers are online and reachable, and that your DNS servers are forwarding requests or recursively handling requests correctly

Time Synchronization

Healthy

Time server configured and reachable

None

Degraded

Time server configured but packet loss was encountered

Ensure that your NTP server and the network between your appliance and the NTP server are operating properly

Warning

Time server configured but not reachable

Ensure that your NTP server configuration is correct, and that your NTP servers are operating correctly, and that the network between your appliance and your NTP servers is operating correctly
