Configuration Backup

Table of contents

The ‘Configuration Backup’ page shown below allows you to make a copy of your appliance configuration, which can be used to restore the configuration onto a replacement system of the same software version should a system replacement be necessary.

Clicking the ‘Download’ button will cause your appliance to package the entire system configuration into a signed XML document.  This configuration backup can be used should you ever need to replace the entire system with another due to failed components or other situations.  Additionally, configuration restore operations can be performed in disaster recovery scenarios where you have a second appliance deployed in a secondary data center, and want to have access to previously-made Cloud Clones to make available to standby servers.  Configuration restore operations can only be performed on systems that do not currently have a configuration; the configuration restore operation is performed as part of the initial setup wizard.

Do not tamper with the contents of the XML document.  Part of the document is a message signature that is generated from the contents of the configuration.  Any changes to any part of the XML document will cause the configuration backup file to be invalid and unusable when you try to use it as part of a configuration restore operation.

It is recommended that you take a configuration backup each time you make a configuration change.
