This document provides information regarding the new disk firmware release including the issues resolved with this release. This release is intended for the StorSimple 5000 and 7000 series appliances that are running software version 2.1.1.518 and have one or more Seagate SSDs (Model ST400FM0073) with XGEB firmware. This is a disk firmware only upgrade, and applying it keeps the appliance software version unchanged. The document is broken down into following sections:

Issues Resolved in Disk Firmware v2.1.1 (2.1.1.518-B59)

The previous release of disk firmware had a bug that caused silent data inconsistency. This bug affected only the SSD drives from Seagate (Model ST400FM0073) running XGEB firmware version. The affected disks showed unrecoverable read errors.

The new firmware fixes the data inconsistency issue. This fix will not correct any data inconsistency that existed prior to this upgrade. We strongly recommend that the customer take a cloud snapshot of their appliance volumes in case a prior inconsistency is exposed after the disk firmware upgrade.

For detailed instructions on how to perform this disk firmware upgrade, go to Disk Firmware Upgrade v2.1.1.
