Thank you for purchasing StorSimple's Data Protection Console software. This document provides release notes identifying open issues for the DPC software version 1.2.1 that runs on Windows server and allows the user to take and manage backups. This document is broken down into following sections:

The following are the release notes for version 1.2.1 for the StorSimple Data Protection MMC Snap-In.





Comments and/or Workarounds


The installation does not indicate absence of internet connection when attempting to download and install the Microsoft .Net Framework.

The installation will automatically attempt to install the Microsoft .Net Framework if it is not already present on the system. Please ensure that the system has internet connectivity before starting the installation.


Installation of MMC requires the .NET 3.5 feature

When installing onto Windows 2008 R2, the .NET 3.5 Framework cannot be automatically installed. It must be added manually through the Server Manager/Features application.


The StorSimple Data Protection installation's Disk Cost utility does not provide accurate information

The Disk Cost utility does not always provide accurate information regarding space needed for installation versus what is available. As a work around, please refer to the Windows Explorer for determining if the required space needed for installation is available. This issue will be resolved in the next release.


When creating a new Policy or updating an existing one and then enabling the Expire schedule feature, the Data Protection Policy dialog will abruptly close and exit with "Unable to perform action on 'Policies'. stop can't be before start"

When using the Expire feature in the Advanced section of the Schedule tab, its default date and time is set to the current system time while the Policy Start time is set five minutes ahead. When you enable the Expire feature without advancing its date and time ahead of the Policy Start time, the dialog will abruptly close. To work around this, prior to enabling the feature, set the date and time ahead of the Policy start time. This issue will be resolved in the next release.


Backup/restore fails with 'Invalid Operation' or 'VSS Requestor Exception' if triggered when restore/backup is in progress

To avoid the issue, trigger a new backup operation once the previous operation finishes.


Help menu item "Help On StorSimple Data Protection" is not functional

For this release, the Help menu item "Help On StorSimple Data Protection" is not functional. Please refer to the help document provided on the installation CD, "StorSimple Data Protection", for information and instructions on using the management console.
